Ethiopia were no match for hosts Ghana in Group F, as the Black Stars romped to a 5-0 win.
The Black Stars of Ghana defeated the Walia Antelopes of Ethiopia 5-0 in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group F qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Black Stars started the game in blistering fashion with Ghana demonstrating their intent to get on the score sheet by applying relentless pressure on the Ethiopians who
mapped up a strong defensive line to curtail the attacking prowess of the Black Stars.
But the Walia Antelopes of Ethiopia couldn’t hold on for long, as Captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan registered his 50th goal on the 11th minute mark with
a header after a delicious cross from Thomas Agyepong on the left flank.
The Black Stars wasted no time in getting the second goal as defender John Boye delivered an instinctive strike to give the Black Stars a cushion goal with less than 20 minutes played.
The Ethiopians responded very well an had a sight on goal half way through the first half but great defensive play by Daniel Amartey cleared things up for the Stars to the relieve of Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori ho was virtually on a holiday in the post.
Ebenezer Ofori delivered a brilliant strike from 20 yards when he dazzled past two players and struck a ferocious strike past Ethiopia Abel Mamo to give the Black Stars a resounding lead going into recess.
The Black Stars started the second half on the front foot searching for their fourth goal and deservedly got that through Rapheal Dwamena who bounced on the loss ball
from 4 yards to struck home his first goal for the Black Stars.
Rapheal Dwamena grabbed his second goal of the game after Ethiopia goalkeeper failed to grab a Thomas Agyepong cross in to the goal area with Dwamena pouncing on the
lose ball to make it five for the Black Stars.
