Jordan Ayew wants to replicate his Black Stars form at Palace
Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew has refused to take all the glory for his awesome brace for Ghana against Ethiopia in the 2019 AFCON qualifier on Sunday.
The 27-year-old former Olympique Marseille man struck the opener for Kwesi Appiah’s side in the 3rd minute through a clinical low drive before converting from the spot in the 23rd minute to seal a crucial win for Ghana in Addis Ababa.
But Ayew, who played his first game for Ghana after one year, says he netted the brace thanks to the effort of his team-mates.
“First of all I’m happy because we’ve qualified. Secondly because I scored two goals and I can say if not because of my team-mates wouldn’t have had the opportunity to score two goals. I’m just enjoying the moment in the qualification and I’m grateful as well,” He told Ghana Sports Online in a post-match interview.
Ghana has qualified for the 2019 AFCON following the 2-0 win in Addis Ababa.
Jordan’s elder brother Andre Ayew also made a return to the Ghana team after a one year absence and he was influential in the sequence of play that led to the penalty that resulted in the second goal.
Captain Asamoah Gyan was unused he watched the entire proceedings from the bench with Hoffenheim’s Kasim Nuhu partnering the experienced John Boye in central defence.
